Garry Owen, Systems Practice Marketing Manager, Sun Microsystems
Garry Owen has over twenty years of IT industry experience, ranging from
programming through to customer services including nearly fifteen years
of marketing (product, channel, corporate and strategic), across most
product areas. Garry's core functional expertise is in the areas of
systems, some middleware applications such as systems management and
clustering, virtualisation, etc.
Garry joined Sun Microsystems UK and Ireland in early 2007 following
three years running Product Marketing for Fujitsu Siemens Computers in
the UK. Prior to this, he spent seven years working for Dell in various
EMEA roles, including heading up Server and Storage Product Marketing
and the EMEA Advanced Systems Group. Prior to this Garry spent some
twelve years in various roles within ICL and Fujitsu ICL Computers.
Currently, Garry is responsible for all field marketing and lead
generation programmes in the UK that support the Sun Systems or server
business. This includes product launches and product briefing/training
within Sun and for partners. Garry has responsibility within marketing
for strategic alliances with companies such as AMD, Intel, Microsoft,
VMware, etc.
Throughout Garry's career he has been a regular speaker at industry,
partner and customer events (both internal and external). Garry is
press-trained and is a key media and analyst contact.
Garry has a B.Sc. (Hons) in Biochemistry from the University of Leeds,
an M.Sc. in Information Technology from Loughborough University and has
recently begun work on an MBA at Warwick Business School.
