Ian Hancock, Head of Storage Practice for UK and Ireland, Sun Microsystems
In his role as Head of Storage, Ian is responsible for the overall leadership of Sun's Storage Business Practice across the UK and Ireland. Ian's focus is to drive revenue for the practice, deliver on customer needs, whilst identifying future market opportunities and developments that will lead to the growth and success of Sun's Storage Practice.
Since joining Sun, originally as Data Management Group (DMG) Sales Country Manager UKI, Ian has led the integration of the Sun and StorageTek Storage businesses, combining Sales and Technical teams and ensuring the understanding and adoption of all Sun's processes.
Sun's Storage Practice is considered by the company as its 'Storage Centre of Excellence', providing both the direction and depth of expertise required to provide customer centric solutions that meet and create business opportunities. This is achieved by drawing on Sun's extensive range of storage and related products and services. Key solution areas include; Virtualisation and Consolidation, ILM, Green Storage and Email & Fixed Content Archive.
Ian has worked exclusively within this sector for over nine years. Prior to joining Sun, Ian was UK Sales Director at StorageTek, where he successfully grew the company's Enterprise Account Business. Leading up to this role, Ian held various Sales leadership positions at EMC, running City Finance, Commercial and New Business teams over a 4-year period. Prior to this, Ian spent 11 years at Memorex Telex in Sales Management, Business Development and various Sales roles.
His functional areas of expertise covers all aspects of Sales and Sales Leadership, having spent 23 years in IT sales, the last 16 of which were in Sales Management and Directorship positions.
