Channel Development Partner (CDP) | Take title and resell Sun products to their respective partners, who in turn sell directly to the end-user; provide a suite of defined services to partners including market coverage, sales support, finance, technical pre- and post-sales training and support, and partner recruitment; some CDP partners also provide aggregation, inventory, and logistics services. |
Government Application Provider (GAP) | ISV's who primarily develop solutions targeted towards the government market; do not have reselling agreements with Sun. |
Outsourcing | Typically have the ability, skills and financial capability to relieve an end-user from the responsibility of running and implementing technology systems including their IT operations; outsourcing functions can include multiple areas as business strategy definition, IT planning and design, purchasing, implementation, operations, architecture maintenance, SLA's. |
Service Provider | Resell Sun technology and services a part of a value-added offering, where their own developed intellectual property, or third-party solution, expertise or market knowledge is a key component of the solution; typically has integration skills and offer specialised knowledge in vertical, horizontal or geographic markets. |
Reseller | Resells Sun's products to end-users through a traditional sales model. Provides value-added services, such as customer support, some integration services, and pre- and post-sales support, to customers. |
System Integrator | Provide a wide-range of integration and outsourcing services to end-customers; produce a competing hardware or software platform to Sun. |
System Provider | Primarily resell to end-users of Sun systems and Sun platform-based solutions; supply implementation, deployment and post-sales support services for third party hardware and software solutions, including eBusiness, availability, network design, security, back-up/recover, performance tuning, systems management, asset tracking, procurement, inventory and configuration management services. |
Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) | Embed or bundle Sun technology as part of their products; OEM/NEP products are defined as final systems or product that (1) are manufactured by the OEM/NEP exclusively for sale or lease to third parties in the regular course of business (2) include and are based on the OEM/NEP's hardware or software intellectual property (3) include OEM/NEP-added hardware (4) permanently incorporate or embed Sun hardware products (which may include software) and (5) have substantially different functional characteristics from Sun products or Technologies. |
Volume Product Reseller (VPR) | Volume Product Reseller - not contracted with Sun; resell Sun volume line products only exclusively to end user customers; typically target their customers through Internet or telemarketing sales; provide minimal support, which may include light integration services and post-sales technical support. |
