UPS

Uninterruptable Power Supplies (UPS) provide a secure and filtered source of AC power for all types of IT equipment. In the event of a prolonged utility power failure, systems can be shutdown gracefully preventing lengthy recovery processes upon power resumption.

UPS Sizing:

UPS sizing to determine the UPS model required is essential in order to ensure correct operation. An automated email-driven UPS sizing utility is available; please email ups@uk.sun.com with subject "help" for operating instructions. Orders for UPS can not be accepted without a "U Reference Number" which can be obtained from the UPS sizing.

Site Survey:

All 2100W and larger UPS above include a pre-delivery site survey (by telephone or site visit depending upon model) to determine the accessibility for delivery and installation and that the electrical requirements of the UPS are met.

If additional electrical work is needed prior to the installation of the UPS, our representative will be pleased to quote for this at the time of the survey. If the customer opts to carry out their own electrical work as recommended by the survey, it will be the customer's responsibility to ensure that the work is carried out to the relevant standards.

If at UPS installation time it is found that the recommendations of the site survey have not been carried out, or have been carried out but do not meet the relevant standards, an extra charge may be incurred.

Installation:

Floor standing 700W and 1400W UPS are customer installable and include documentation for this purpose - use the option UKT-UPS-INS for engineer hardware and software installation (on a single server/domain) of these UPS.

All other UPS include onsite engineer installation between Mon to Fri during normal working hours. Installations outside of normal working hours and at weekends may be ordered using the UKT-UPS-OOHI-WE/WD product codes. Included with the hardware installation is the engineer installation of a single copy of the software on one server or domain. A software install option for multiple servers and or domains is available using order code GB-PS-UPSINSTALL. Installation will be performed during normal office working hours, Monday to Friday excluding public holidays. Last minute rescheduling of the installation by the customer may incur an additional charge.

Please note that to prevent shipping delays, the installation address details should be included with the order for engineer installed UPS. Please contact Complementary Products if it is not possible to provide this information.

Connections:

All UPS include all necessary power cables and a single communication cable, up to the output power cable limits described below. For engineer installed UPS, additional output connections are available at cost during engineer installation.

• 700W and 1400W floor standing UPS: 4x IEC320 (the option UKT-UPS-5WAY-Z may be used to expand the IEC320 outlets by 4)
• 700W and 1400W rack mounted UPS: 2x (16A/32A IEC309 and/or 4-way BS 13A sockets)
• 2.1KW to 4.2KW UPS: 4x (16A/32A IEC309 and/or 4-way BS 13A sockets)
• 8KW to 16KW UPS: Up to 9x (16A/32A IEC309 and/or 4-way BS 13A sockets)
• 24KW or larger UPS: Up to 12x (16A/32A IEC309 and/or 4-way BS 13A sockets)

Server Communications:

The UPS communicates with the server(s) using Ethernet and requires to be allocated an IP address (a 5m UTP cable is included with each UPS). Please ensure that a network which connects with each server to be powered by the UPS is available for the UPS connection. Any network hardware must be powered by the UPS so that communications are maintained in the event of utility power failure. If only a single server (and single domain) is to be supported by the UPS, a cross-over Ethernet cable (order code UKT-UTP-CASCADE-Z) can be used to connect directly to a spare Ethernet port on the server.

Rack Mounting:

Rack mounted UPS are supported in all Sun racks and most third party racks (although compatibility with non-Sun racks can not be guaranteed). The rack mount kit is included with the UPS.

Accessories and Options:

• UKT-UPS-5WAY-Z: 5 way IEC320 mains adapter for the 700W and 1400W tower UPS only. Increases IEC320 output connections by four. Includes all cables required – RoHS compliant.
• UKT-UPS-INS: Installation service for 700W and 1400W tower UPS only. Includes hardware install and install of one copy of the software (Mon to Fri, 09:00 to 17:30, excluding public holidays)
• GB-PS-UPSINSTALL: Sun engineer UPS software installation service for multiple Sun systems or multi-domain Sun servers (Mon to Fri, 09:00 to 17:30, excluding public holidays)
• UKT-UPS-OOHI-WD: Out of hours (Mon 17:30 to Fri 09:00) UPS installation option. Includes hardware installation and installation of one copy of the software.
• UKT-UPS-OOHI-WE: Out of hours (Fri 17:30 to Mon 09:00 and bank holidays) UPS installation option. Includes hardware installation and installation of one copy of the software.
