Course Wave Division Multiplexing (CWDM)

The SmartOptics SFP and CWDM devices provide interconnection of 1Gb, 2Gb or 4Gb Fibre Channel products - switches and storage arrays - either within the Datacentre or connecting Datacentres together over dark fibre, either as point-to-point connection or using Course Wave Division Multiplexing to combine eight channels down one dark fibre strand.

All of these products are passive, the SFPs deriving their power from the server or device they are plugged into.

Connection options:

• Within the Datacentre point-to-point connection is provided up to 150 meters by an 850nm, 7dB SFP
• Within the Datacentre or on Campus, point-to-point connection is provided over 5 or 10km by 1310nm, 10dB SFPs
• Greater distances of 50 or 80km can be achieved point-to-point with either 18 or 28dB (resp.) SFPs
• Multiplexing eight wavelengths of 1471, 1491, 1511, 1531, 1551, 1571, 1591 or 1610nm down a single dark fibre strand over 50 or 80km.

Features:

• Any server configured with 1Gb, 2Gb or 4Gb Fibre channel host bus adapters.
• Any 1Gb, 2Gb or 4Gb Fibre Channel storage device.
• All devices are transparent to host, operating system and storage device requiring no special configuration or management tools.
