How to Apply

The Sun Academic Initiative programme provides institutions with access to courses that are designed to introduce students to Sun technologies and equip them with skills in their chosen field of study.

The Programme is available to non-profit academic institutions worldwide. Eligible institutions include:

  • K-12 Schools and Districts
  • Universities and Colleges
  • Graduate Schools
  • Teaching Hospitals
  • College Libraries
  • Research Labs/Institutions

Application Steps

Once an academic institution is recognised by Sun as a potential SAI, the approval process includes these steps:

1.The academic institution submits an online application which serves as the legal agreement between Sun and the institution for use of the web based training.

2.Sun management reviews the application and approves or rejects it. If approved, the SAI institution is scheduled for addition to the online portion of the programme and receives an e-mail with welcome letter and online registration instructions. If rejected, a rejection e-mail is sent back to you.

3.SAI institutions may provide authorised students, department members and staff affiliated with the SAI with free access to selected online courses through the Sun Learning Connection (SLC), Sun's online training system.

Optional – Instructor Led Training (ILT) Courses

In addition to 1-3 above.

4.If your institution is interested in delivering Instructor Led Training (ILT) courses, as indicated in your application, you are required to download the Sun Microsystems Customer Agreement and the Logo License Agreement from www.sunacademic.com.

5.You then need to sign two copies of each agreement and sends back to Sun for signature. If the application and agreements are acceptable to Sun, Sun signs the agreements and sends an executed copy of each back to you. Upon receipt, your institution will be considered to be a Sun Academic Institution.

6.Training material for ILT courses: All authorised students must be supplied with the appropriate training materials including a student kit. Training materials (including student kits) must be ordered from a Sun Authorised Distributor.
