You can maximise the benefits of Sun technology and provide total ICT mobility for staff and students by introducing Sun’s Secure Global Desktop (SGD) Software to your servers. This enables secure, remote access - from anywhere, at any time and from virtually any device to applications as well as files and emails. You can use SGD with – or without – Sun Ray displays.

Secure Global Desktop is an inclusive solution for everyone. While a broadband connection is ideal, applications, files and emails can be accessed via a 56k dial-up modem. It doesn't need the latest technology in the home either, as SGD only needs a Java-enabled web browser.

Following an ‘open standards framework’, SGD will work with an existing Microsoft environment, as well as Linux and Solaris, among many platforms. It does, however, work best where applications are centralised, and the school has some form of directory service for authentication.
