UK FY10 1H Matching Grant Programme
Sun Microsystems is committed to helping educators use and adapt technology through its strategic programmes, creating strong partnerships with Higher Education institutions. An example of this commitment is our Matching Grant programme currently on offer to Higher Education institutions. Based on Buy 1 - Get 1 Free basis, special savings are offered to academic and research labs on selected Sun products. This programme runs from now until 20th December 2009.
Customer Guidelines and Process
- Every application is subject to final approval by Sun Microsystems, Inc. The number of labs included may be limited due to response to this matching grant programme and there is a limited amount of equipment available for this programme. Orders will be processed on a first-come first-served basis. Your order will be considered approved when you receive an approval number from the Sun Programme Manager and if in place within 30 days after the approval date.
- Eligible hardware for this match are listed in the Product List.
All equipment on the order must be part of a classroom, a student or research lab configuration, for student, faculty, or research desktops. Details on the kind of student classroom or research lab must be specified under Question 2 in the MG10 Request Form.
- The match will be a 1:1 (buy one, get one free) match off list price on the products listed in the MG10 Product List.
- Sun reserves the right to change the MG Product List, to amend or modify this Matching Grant programme or to terminate the entire Matching Grant programme or withdraw any component of the same detailed herein at any time during the MG Period; this means among other things that products can be taken off or added on, and price changes will be applied in the course of the programme. Products can only be offered as Matching Grant to a customer, as long as they appear on the MG10 End User Product List and at the price as indicated on the Product List.
- Quotes are valid 30 days after quote date and Sun Matching grant Approval Numbers remain valid until 30 days after the approval date. After that date, the customer can only order the products at Matching Grant conditions, if the matching Grant Program is still active and if the respective products are still on the Matching Grant Product List.
- Also note that Options (Disk, Country Kits, Memory, Monitors..) on the MG Product List can only be bought with Matching Grant if bought in combination with a Sun Desktop from the MG Product List. And for every SunRay 2 or 2FS bought with Matching Grant, the customer needs to buy a Sun Monitor from the MG Product List.
- Not included in the match are orders already placed or shipped, items on "promo" and equipment used for administrative computing, infrastructure, or personal use.
- SunRay deployments in excess of 200 seats must be referred to the Program Manager (Dominic.Hicks@Sun.COM) BEFORE submitting the request.
- Submissions which do not follow the process outlined will not qualify for this matching grant.
- This matching grant is available from October 9th, 2009 until December 20, 2009. This means that requests can be approved until December 20, 2009, and all purchase orders with a valid approval number must arrive at Sun on or before January 20th, 2010. (ie 30 days after approval date)
PLEASE NOTE: IMPORTANT: Rules, Changes & Exceptions in the MG10 Program are:
– If a customer buys a minimum of 2 servers ( buy one, get one free ) or 10 Sun Rays/workstations through the MG10 Program, he/she can, in the same order, buy 1 or more Sun Storage systems from the MG10 Product List at MG conditions, i.e. at 50% discount. (Please note: The storage system has to be part of the quote for which MG Approval is requested)
– Sun is moving from PTO (Pick to Order) to ATO (Assemble to Order) Configurations and as such there are consequences for different hardware models:
Consequences for Ultra 27 Workstation and x64 Servers: On the MG10 Product List you will find a number of predefined ATO Configurations. If a customer wants to buy the systems at MG Conditions he/she will need to order the configurations in the predefined configuration bundles:
e.g. if a Customer wants to buy a Sun Fire X2200 Server. He/She can pick one of the 3 predefined SunFire X2200 Configuration Bundles

In this case, the customer would be buying:
1 x Chassis with part number A85-A-QC and getting 1 “free”
2 x Memories with part number 4087A and getting 2 “free”
2 x Disks with part number RB-ST1CE-500G7K and getting 2 “free”
etc...
– The products listed under an ATO Configuration cannot be bought as stand alone products at MG Conditions. Only if he/she buys the requested server as a configuration bundle on the MG10 Product List in the indicated quantities will the customer be able to profit from the 50% discount offered through Matching Grant
– Products not on the MG10 Product List can be purchased at standard pricing less customer contractual education discounts
– Power cords will be added to configurations at time of quoting
– Consequences for Sun Blade Systems: If a customer wants to buy a Sun Blade 6000 System from the MG Product List, he/she will need to combine the mandatory Blade Chassis and Network Express Modules (NEMs) as listed in the MG10 Product List:
These Blade Chassis and NEMs can then be combined with any 2 Blade Express Modules (EM's) or Blade Server Modules that are listed in the MG10 Product List.
Process Checklist
- Either contact your Sun Sales or Sun Partner Rep and work with
him/her on a configuration and to fill out a Matching Grant Request Form.
If you would like to enter your details online, please press the
'Apply now' button and your details will be forwarded directly to a Sun
Partner Rep.
- Once you have agreed to the configuration and quote, your rep will submit your request and quote for evaluation and possible approval.
- If the match is approved, your rep will receive an approval number via email and forward to you, with cc to the Partner Rep, if a Partner is involved.
- The quote number and approval number must be on your purchase order.
- Cut purchase order within 30 days after the approval date and submit to Sun or Partner as usual
